The RhinAer® procedure is an FDA approved treatment for chronic rhinitis. The procedure is performed in our office under local anesthesia with minimal discomfort and downtime. Your physicians at ENT Specialists Inc. were some of the first doctors to offer this procedure in the New England Area and have performed the highest number of this procedure in this area.

What is Chronic Rhinitis?

Chronic rhinitis is an inflammatory condition of your nose. It can be due to allergic irritation from triggers such as pollen or environmental factors such as temperature changes or age related factors that cause your nose to be runny at meal times.

What are the symptoms of chronic rhinitis?

  • Constant runny or “drippy” nose

  • Chronic nasal congestion or “stuffiness”

  • Constant post nasal drainage

What is the Rhinaer® Procedure?

Rhinitis can be persistent even after appropriate allergy and sinus treatment, and it could be due to overactivity of nerve bundles located in the back of the nose that control the amount of mucous your nose produces.

RhinAer® is a procedure that uses a radiofrequency wand  to decrease posterior nasal nerve activity, giving you relief from chronic runny nose and postnasal drip. This procedure is done under local anesthesia in the office and requires minimal downtime for recovery.

Prior to start of the procedure, your physician will apply a local anesthetic to the inside of your nose. Once completely numbed, the RhinAer® wand is inserted into the nostril. Low-temperature radiofrequency energy is emitted from the tip of the wand, disrupting the signals within the mucosal lining that trigger symptoms. The RhinAer® system targets and calms overactive nerve endings, reducing the production of unnecessary mucous and shrinking inflamed tissue. You should plan on being in the office for a total of 60 minutes, and patients may return to their regular activities almost immediately.
