How To Reduce Winter Weather Falls

Updated: Jul 11, 2022

Winter weather can also lead to especially devastating falls this time of year, with black ice on driveways, sidewalks that haven’t been shoveled, or by choosing the wrong footwear. It is important to always walk slowly and carefully in bad weather, and choose boots or shoes with slip-resistant capabilities.

Falling is not just an inevitable part of aging. The number of falls among senior citizens can be reduced substantially through simple lifestyle adjustments. Physical therapists can help in both risk reduction and prevention of falls, and certain exercises can strengthen the legs and greatly improve balance.

At ENT Specialists we are pleased to offer dizziness and fall prevention therapy services to our patients. Our goal at FYZICAL-Plainville is for all of our patients to be able to live their lives without the fear of falling.

We are focused on relieving dizzy symptoms, improving strength and increasing mobility and function. Our center features state-of-the-art equipment, including the Safety Over-head Support System, which allows us to help our patients while eliminating any fear of falling they may have. We use NASA-level force plate technology to assess, train and improve the balance system. We also offer expert therapy treatments by our specialized vestibular rehabilitation therapist with sessions focused on the individual.
